BIS Asia Day: A Celebration of Culture, Unity, and Tradition

By Nazlican Yilmaz, Grade 12 Student and Saadat Bolotkanova, Grade 11 Student

On September 28, 2024, BIS came alive with colour, music, dance, and food as the community gathered for Asia Day.

From 10:00 to 13:00, students, staff, and parents dressed in traditional clothes representing a wide range of Asian countries, including Nepal, India, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, the Philippines, Japan, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, Burma, China, Vietnam, and more.

The event wasn’t just about clothing, it was a full cultural celebration! The day featured vibrant dance performances demonstrating the heritage of different countries and musical performances where traditional instruments brought the sounds of Asia to life. From elegant movements to rhythmic drum beats, every performance highlighted the rich cultural diversity represented at BIS.

Beyond clothing and performances, the guests were also treated to a variety of delicious Asian dishes. Stalls offered traditional cuisines, allowing everyone to experience the unique flavours of the represented countries.

Participants from our school were also awarded 10 points for wearing their traditional clothes and representing their countries, with three houses competing to show their enthusiasm and unity. Parents joined the celebration, by also wearing traditional clothes and helping their children’s houses earn points.

Asia Day was more than a fest; it was a chance for the BIS community to come together, embracing the values of cultural diversity and global unity while creating unforgettable memories!
