UN Day at BIS!

On October 18th, the school carried its annual UN day, where students from primary, middle, and high school participated in various activities which were meant to showcase the school’s unity and global diversity!

UN day is an extremely important event in BIS as its purpose is to raise awareness of many different issues in our world and the way we can combat them through sustainable development goals (SDGs) presented by the United Nations. Therefore, this year our school invited a speaker from the International Organisation for Migration to introduce their work and answer any questions on the behalf of the UN organisation. High school students were excused from period 3 to attend the speech, as well as take part in a special online quiz on UN knowledge. By the end of the quiz, first 5 places were given amazing prizes so not only did this activity provide fun facts about the UN but also gave us all a chance to win useful gifts!

Besides the speech from IOM, the school also held its annual parade, where students across all grades were able to represent their country of origin. It was particularly wonderful to see how proud the BIS students are of their native  language and traditions. This included carrying their flags and dressing up in national clothes, for which people also got house points.

The success of this year’s UN day had definitely left our UN organising team and participants excited for next year, which is also expected to be full of great activities and memories!
